Amosite (Gray Asbestos)
Asbestiform Grunerite, (Fe2+,Mg)7[Si8 O22](OH)2
Amosite (derived from "asbestos mines of South Afica") asbestos was used as extensively as
chrysotile.
Grunerite is the proper name for amphiboles of the cummingtonite-grunerite series which contains amosite asbestos.
Grunerite crystals can variously be relatively thick, flat prisms to acicular, brittle grains, to very long, thin fibers and fiber bundles. Grunerite separates into smaller groups of needle-like fibers with sleek ends that are commonly found in building products.
