Grief Counseling

Grief counseling helps the bereaved who have uncomplicated grief while grief therapy is aimed at those with complicated grief.

Whether one-on-one sessions with a grief counsellor or in a self-help group the aims of grief counseling include:
  • help to accept loss by helping you talk about it

  • help to identify and express feelings (anger, guilt, etc.)

  • help to live without the deceased (such as making decisions alone)

  • help to separate emotionally from the decased and start new relationships

  • discussing 'normal' grieving and how people deal with it differntly

  • provide on-going support

  • help to understand your coping methods

  • identify grieving problems and make grief therapy recommendations
