Alternative Medicine
Alternative medicine covers all those activities outside of contemporarily accepted medical treatments that have been claimed to have a healing or other beneficial impact.
Such treatments include herbal medicines, naturopathy, homeopathy, acupuncture and massage.
The benefits of alternative medicine have been argued to come from the relaxing effect of these treatments. An improvement in the emotional, mental and spiritual aspects of the patients life have a 'knock-on' effect to the actual symptons experienced by the patient.
If alternative medicine treatments are taken in parallel to 'normal' treatments the alternative treatments are termed 'complementary'.
